Not sure if Seasonal camping is for you? With the average price of a gallon of gas exceeding $4 regularly during the summer, commuting the camper to your favorite destination may not be the best financial decision. Using a trip cost calculator, trips from Grand Rapids with the camper can exceed $75.00 each way for a $150.00 total round trip cost. Commuting from Detroit round trip will likely exceed $200.00. Commuting just 10 round trips a year can quickly add up to $1500.00 or $2000.00 for fuel charges alone. Add camping charges on at $500.00-$1000.00 per season and charges start to ad up quickly. This is only accounting for two primary charges. Many items cannot be measured with a dollar amount these so called "priceless" items such as the stress of hauling the camper through Friday traffic and back home on Sunday, the late night flat tire on the RV, and last but not least the time for set up, hook up and the reverse upon departure.

Seasonal Camping offers a possible 20 weekends of camping or full time living the decision is up to you. Gas mileage can easily double when not hauling an RV cutting fuel cost in half if commuting and eliminate fuel costs if staying for the season. We currently have 10 seasonal campers that stay permanently and 25 others that commute or stay for an extended stay. If Northwest Michigan is an area of interest for summer vacationing Honcho Rest Campground seasonal camping is a wonderful solution.
