Honcho Rest Campground is located on 1,000 feet of frontage on beautiful, private Bass Lake. We are in between Elk Lake and Lake Michigan, across the street from the Elk Rapids Public Golf Course. Honcho Rest has 50 campsites; approximately 70% are rented to seasonal guests. All 50 of our sites have sewer, water, electric and cable television hook-up. We are currently adding new campsites - please refer to a description of this expansion in our website section entitled "Our Future." Our current campsites are all constructed with concrete and include spacious yards with fire rings.
Biography
Hello, I am Steven Smith. I am a 2007 graduate of Purdue University in Lafayette, Indiana where I studied Building Construction Management. I grew up in Davison, Michigan graduating from Davison High School in 2003. While growing up, my family traveled often. We purchased our first fifth-wheel RV when I was ten years old to travel to Alaska for a six-week summer vacation. Later, we moved on to motor coaches where our trips included the Mall of America, Florida, and many trips around both the lower and upper peninsulas of Michigan. All of this traveling gave me a grand appreciation for the outdoors. My recreational activities revolve around the wonderful opportunities provided by the natural beauty of northern Michigan. I am a licensed pilot and love to fly my Seaplane; I have both multi-engine and instrument ratings. I also enjoy biking, boating, hiking, swimming and almost every other outdoor activity available.
Hello, We are Don & Melinda Smith. We were married in August of 2005. Our families have always enjoyed camping, so we are happy now to provide you with a great place for family camping. I really enjoy being outdoors playing various sports as well as hunting and fishing. Melinda loves working with kids. For the past seven years she has been a gymnastics/cheerleading coach for kids of all ages. We are here to share the great outdoors with you and create a wonderful camping experience at Honcho Rest Campground.
History
Honcho Rest Campground was established in 1972 in the Village of Elk Rapids. The name originated from the founder of the campground who was a businessman from Indianapolis. His co-workers referred to him as the "Head Honcho." When he was not working, he came to Elk Rapids for a leisurely vacation, or "rest," and the name "Honcho Rest" was born. Honcho Rest is and has been the only full hook-up campground in Elk Rapids and a premier campground in the entire Chain of Lakes region.
